If you're an EU citizen living in London, you can vote in the London Mayor and Assembly elections. Please do!

Your questions answered - EU citizens in London

But Brexit has happened - haven't EU citizens lost their voting rights?

No! Some of the most anti-European Brexit supporters might not like it, but EU citizens can still vote in London at the coming elections. This will only change if the Government brings in new laws to stop EU citizens from voting, before May 2021 - and there has been no indication from Government that this is on the agenda.

Are you sure?

The coronavirus pandemic means that the election has been postponed to May 2021. At the moment, no laws have been changed that will prevent EU citizens from voting in the London elections - but if we hear of any changes we'll alert you on this page - or sign up to our email list to make sure you get the latest.

How do I register to vote?

Just go to gov.uk/register-to-vote and fill in the form. It just takes a few minutes and is very straightforward.

I think I've registered to vote before. Do I need to register again?

It depends - if you've recently changed your name, moved house or changed nationalities then yes, you need to fill in the form again to update your registration. If you can't remember if you're registered or not, go to gov.uk/register-to-vote and either fill in the form again, or use the link on their website to check with your local register.

Can you help me with other guidance about life in the UK after Brexit?

One of former Green Party MEP Scott Ainslie's final acts in office was to publish guidance for EU citizens living in the UK after Brexit, available in 6 European languages. Go to scottainsliemep.org.uk to access the guidance.
